Aromatherapy Materials You Will Need to Take this Course

All materials are optional and are not required to complete this course.

If you would like to follow along with the course and participate in the experiential aspect, you could have the following items ready:

  • One or more of the four essential oils that we will be covering in the course
  • Five to six cotton balls
  • A small ceramic, glass, or another non-reactive dish
  • A small amount of plant-based carrier oil (coconut oil, fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond, jojoba, olive oil, etc.). A 1/2 oz. (15 mL) to 1 oz. (30 mL) bottle of liquid carrier oil should be fine. If you’re using room-temperature coconut oil that is not fractionated, have 1/8 cup to 1/4 cup available.

Essential oils we will cover in this course:

  • Frankincense
  • Lavender
  • Orange
  • Vetiver

The following guidelines are helpful when purchasing essential oils:

  1. Only purchase from a reputable essential oil supplier.
  2. Essential oils should be authentic and unadulterated.
  3. Make sure that you’re not purchasing synthetic fragrance oil.
  4. The essential oil should have both the botanical (Latin) name and the common name on the bottle. It’s also helpful to have the batch/lot number and country of origin on the bottle.
  5. Use only essential oils that haven’t oxidized and have been stored correctly.
  6. If you’re using the orange essential oil (or any other citrus), make sure that it is under 1 year of age (and preferably stored in the refrigerator).
